What I’ve Learned Growing My YouTube Channel + Tips for Creators Here”
Hey Skool fam! 👋
I’ve been diving deep into YouTube lately, and I wanted to share a few lessons + an invitation not to “buy into something,” but just because I think it could help some of you who’re building content-based communities.
My channel is Serious History: youtube.com/@serioushistory I make history content, from deep-dive documentaries to little-known stories.
Here are a few YouTube growth ideas that have actually helped me (and might work for you too):
---
🔍 What’s working for me (and could be useful for your community)
1. Story first, algorithm second
When I sit down to plan a video, I think about a story that feels compelling, not just “what’s trending.” Viewers stick when there’s emotional or intellectual tension early on.
2. Tease upcoming content
I often drop behind-the-scenes photos or short clips in my channel’s Community tab. It builds a little hype and makes people feel like they’re part of the journey.
3. Ask real questions
Polls and community posts where I ask things like “Which era of history should I cover next?” or “What part of medieval history fascinates you most?” drive engagement AND ideas.
4. Be consistent but don’t overpromise
I don’t need to post every day. But I do try to maintain a steady rhythm. Consistency builds trust.
5. Show the real behind-the-scenes
Sometimes I post bloopers, or share how I research not just polished video clips. It makes the channel feel more “on the ground.”
6. Collaborate & connect
I’m always open to teaming up with other creators or even Skool members who have overlapping interests. Cross-pollination works wonders.

💡 My ask for you:
If you like deep, thoughtful content feel free to check out Serious History.
If there’s a history topic you think deserves a video tell me here. I’d love to get ideas from a community like this.
If you’re also working on YouTube or content, let’s chat and exchange growth tips or even collab ideas.
---
Thanks for being such a vibrant space! 🙏 Excited to
learn from all of you, and hopefully add value, too.
