Are you dropping balls?
So it’s day one of my cycle today, and the hormonal fog has firmly rolled in.
The good news? It hasn’t completely floored me the way it usually does (shoutout to my new supplement routine, or maybe I just got lucky this month, who knows).
The bad news? It’s left me feeling completely fed up, hot, irritated, and firmly in a state of "I can’t be bothered."
But instead of letting myself just exist in that day-one low energy, I did what we all do: I sat down, opened my laptop, and looked at my to-do list. And suddenly, my brain went into absolute overdrive.
I look around and it feels like everything is going to pot. The house renovation is a mess, the builder is moving at the pace of a tectonic plate, it’s boiling hot, and I have this massive mental list of things that "urgently" need doing.
Then the anxiety script starts looping: "How do I manage all of this? How do I get loads of stuff done today without completely selling my soul and collapsing from exhaustion?"
Here is the honest, frustrating truth about capacity: It is physically impossible to do it all.
You have to drop some balls.
Some days, our brains are totally fine with that. But other days—like today, when the hormones are talking—it feels terrifying. We start panicking that if we let things wait, we're just "letting life drift behind us" or using our capacity as an excuse to hide.
But there is a massive difference between hiding from life and respecting your actual, current human body. Today is a day-one cycle day in the middle of a heatwave. My capacity is naturally lower, and trying to plan a day from the perspective of my "ideal, high-energy self" is just a recipe for resentment.
So today, I’m putting the brakes on the mental negotiation. I’m picking three non-negotiable things from that massive list. Just three. The rest can sit there and be tomorrow's problem. The world won't end, the business won't break, and my future, more replenished self will thank me for it.
How do you handle your to-do list when your body is firmly screaming "nope"? Do you let yourself drop the balls, or are you currently trying to push through the exhaustion too? Drop a comment and let me know—no judgment here, I’m right in it with you today.
