Chapter One The Long, Road Home
Chapter 1 The Story Behind the Scars Graphic Content Warning ⚠️ The photos in this post contain graphic medical images from my recovery after a near-fatal motorcycle accident. Viewer discretion is advised. You’ll also notice that some of the photos are screenshots instead of the original images. That’s intentional. I left the dates visible to help document the timeline of my story and show that these events really happened when I say they did. I’m not sharing this for attention or sympathy. This is mostly for me. I’ve carried these memories around for a long damn time, and for whatever reason, I’ve finally reached a point where I feel like I need to put them somewhere outside of my own head. If it helps or motivates somebody else along the way, then that will be good as well. But honestly, that wasn’t the reason I started writing. I tried therapy. I really did. I gave it an honest shot. But therapy didn’t help me. If anything, I usually felt worse afterward. I’d walk out of those sessions more pissed off than I was when I walked in. Maybe therapy works for some people. It just didn’t work for me. Writing has been different. When I started putting these memories down, something unexpected happened. I started remembering things I hadn’t thought about in years. Some of those memories were good. Some were painful. Some made me laugh. Some made me angry all over again. But at least they were mine. And for the first time, I felt like I was actually doing something with them instead of just carrying them around. So maybe this book is a little bit of therapy after all. Just my kind of therapy. A keyboard instead of a therapist’s couch. And if somebody happens to read these pages someday and realizes they aren’t the only person who has been knocked down, pissed off, lost, broken, or just trying like hell to figure things out… Then maybe writing it all down was worth it. Part 1: The Story Behind the Scars Most people know bits and pieces of my story, but very few know the whole thing.

The Long, Road Home
What if the life you thought was trying to break you was actually preparing you for something bigger? My name is Ricky White, and I’ve spent 45 years finding that answer the hard way. I’ve been homeless. I’ve lost people I loved. I’ve watched addiction destroy lives. I’ve lived with pain. I’ve made decisions I’m not proud of. I’ve made mistakes that changed the people around me. And I’ve come damn close to dying more than once. One motorcycle ride changed everything. 60 miles per hour… to a dead stop. A ruptured aorta. Broken ribs. A fractured neck. An open abdomen. Ten days later, I walked out of the hospital. But surviving wasn’t the hardest part. Figuring out what to do with the life I was given afterward was. This book is about that journey. The people who shaped me. The people I lost. The mistakes I made. The places I ran to. The places I eventually came home to. The memories I thought I had forgotten. And the lessons I had to learn the hard way. But here’s the thing… The story isn’t finished. I’m still writing it. I’m still remembering things I haven’t thought about in decades. I’m still uncovering pieces of my past. I’m still trying to understand how all those miles, mistakes, losses, close calls, and second chances turned me into the man I am today. And I want you here while it happens. This community isn’t just about following a book. It’s about following a life. You’ll see the stories before they become pages. You’ll see the memories as they come back. You’ll see the hard truths, the ridiculous stories, the lessons, the failures, the victories, and probably a whole lot of shit I probably shouldn’t admit publicly. 😂 Because I don’t know exactly where this road ends. But I know one thing… I’m not done traveling it. Welcome to the journey. Welcome to The Long, Hard Road Home

The Long, Road Home
Welcome to The Long, Hard Road Home My name is Ricky White—and this is my story. For years, I never thought the things I lived through would become a book. Some memories were too painful to talk about, and some chapters of my life were ones I desperately wanted to leave behind. But eventually I realized something: Those chapters didn’t destroy me. They made me who I am. The Long, Hard Road Home is my story of survival, loss, pain, mistakes, second chances, and the long road of finding my way back to the man I was meant to become. I created this community to bring you closer to the story behind the book. I’ll share the moments that shaped it, the stories that didn’t make the final pages, the lessons I learned the hard way, and the journey that continues today. I’m not writing this because I have all the answers. I’m writing it because I know what it feels like to be knocked down and wonder if you’ll ever get back up. I’m Ricky White. This is The Long, Hard Road Home. And if you’ve ever had to fight your way back from something, maybe this road is yours too. Welcome. I’m glad you’re here.
