One thing that changed my Etsy results more than anything else: I stopped optimizing for search and started optimizing for the click.
Your SEO gets people to your listing. Your thumbnail gets them to click it. Those are two completely different jobs and most sellers only work on one.
After 11,000+ sales selling digital products on Etsy, here's what I've found moves click-through rate the most:
- Lifestyle mockups almost always outperform flat product shots
- Clean, light backgrounds — buyers are scrolling fast and cluttered images stop them cold
- Text on the thumbnail that tells them exactly what they're getting before they click
Most sellers who plateau have decent SEO but thumbnails that blend in. The fix is usually faster than they expect.
Happy to dig into any of this if you have questions. I also just opened a community called Passive & Paid for digital product sellers if anyone wants to go deeper.
