Learning from Impressionism
Impressionism is one of my favorite art movements, especially when it comes to cityscapes. I just enjoy how small , seemingly abstract marks can turn into a painting when you sit back and look at it as a whole. When I was getting frustrated about my detail, I went to the art museum nearby and really looked at how impressionist artists added their detail. I was surprised by how much of it was my brain filling in details to create something that may not have been there. Just a small black dot represented a hat on someones head on a street.
So for these drawings, I really wanted to focus on letting the whole piece speak for itself. I didn't worry too much about detail; I let my marks speak for themselves. This was also the first time I truly began to understand under tones and how to get the coloes I wanted. Im still working on saturating colors in the sky area but Im done with the second drawing. Im pretty proud of them!
