Fundraising Fuel 🔥
Where to start… My own fundraising journey started in 2007, when I was working at a rehabilitation centre on the island of Flores, Indonesia. I was working with and for people with different abilities. I was young, full of energy, and determined to help them become more independent in all aspects of life. Honestly, I think I could write a whole book about all the things we tried to raise money and create attention for the cause 😅 And now… so many years later, in the era of AI and social media, things are different. So much more is possible. That’s why I want to open up this space for us to share thoughts, ideas, wins, struggles, and creativity around fundraising. Because yes… I still actively fundraise for the projects I helped set up in Flores, and I know I can learn from all of you too. One thing I’ve learned over the years is this: Successful fundraising needs to fit your character. Last year, I wrote an e-book about this topic, but now with AI I’ve been able to transform it into an interactive artifact. I truly think it can help those of you who want to match your fundraising efforts with your personality and strengths. For example… I’m actually an introvert 😅 So things like social media lives, and radio interviews never really matched my natural strengths. I got invited for a TV show once to talk about the project, but declined politely. Not my thing (scary!) But there are MANY ways to fundraise successfully. I would love for you to check out the artifact and let me know what you think in the Fundraising Fuel Feed 👇

The Box
When I was younger, I had a “What If Life Gets Boring” box. A simple box in my room, filled with brochures, clippings, and random scribbled notes about things I could do if life ever felt stuck. Volunteering abroad, working in faraway places, chasing adventures I wasn’t quite ready for (yet). Every so often, I’d open it, pick whatever spoke to me in that moment, and just go for it. Some trips turned into unforgettable memories. Others were challenges I still laugh about. But every single one shaped me, taught me something new, and made me crave more. That little box? It’s the reason I’m starting this community. A place for the dreamers, the restless hearts, the adventure seekers, and their families. To share stories, swap advice, and remind each other that it’s okay (and kind of awesome) to change your plans when life nudges you in a new direction. Because life’s too short not to have a “What If” box. Did you have a box too? Share your story of how it all began in the comments 🤩

❤️ Culture Shock and Reversed Culture Shock ❤️
This is my favorite topic. I have moved often, first alone and later with my family, adjusting to life in different places, re-adjusting back home again. Growing up in the Netherlands and living in Indonesia for 17 years, I can say those are the 2 countries that feel like home to me. Follow this channel if you are feeling lost while adapting to a new place, if you want to inspire others by sharing your win-moments, or if you want to learn more about navigating the stages of culture shock. Resources to help you will be available in the Classroom soon!
New resource in the classroom!
I just uploaded a Beta-version of the interactive E Book Creative Fundraising. Please let me know if this is helpful information for you in the comments below. Any feedback is greatly appreciated! Because there are so many apps and possibilities worldwide, just add options in the comments below if you have experience with good donor CRM / Tools and so on! This file is a starter tool from which you can begin to outline your ideas and the steps you need to take to raise funds for your project.
