Visionaries... it is quite a normal human emotion to be afraid of potential failure.
I've asked myself so many questions over the years:
"What if it doesn't work?"
"What if I blotch the sales call?"
"What if nobody enrolls from my 30-minute workshop?"
"What if my ads don't drive in new customers?"
"What if... what if.... what if....?"
But here's what 16 years of marketing experience has taught me.
Failures will happen.
Successes will also happen.
Some marketing campaigns will flop.
Others will crush.
But the biggest breakthrough I've had is when I learned that a "failed marketing campaign" isn't permanent.
It's just feedback.
To make adjustments.
I remember one time hosting a workshop.
There were 22 people on zoom with me.
All attendees stayed the entire session.
They were engaged.
Taking notes.
And asked many questions.
They were into my training.
But then...
Nobody bought when I made an offer.
In the past this would have really upset me.
But I had learned that a failed marketing campaign was temporary (as long as I learned and made adjustments).
So I surveyed all 22 attendees and asked for feedback.
"Why didn't you buy and what would my offer need to include to make you extremely interested in working together?"
I received feedback from around 8 or 9 people.
Made adjustments to my offer based on that feedback.
Hosted an encore workshop 2 days later.
Invited the same 22 people back.
About 18 attended the encore training the 2nd time.
I added more value on the encore workshop and then re-pitched my "updated" offer (based on their feedback from the first session).
And made 7 sales at $997.
For about 7k.
I was STOKED!!!
And that's when this concept clicked for me.
That marketing is about "adjustments".
Sure for a national brand some mistakes can turn into a P.R. nightmare.
But for smaller entrepreneurs; it's unlikely any 1 campaign mistake will be massive.
Often times a "failed campaign" can become just a temporary mistake.
It's just that we often think in terms of "worst case scenarios".
When ultimately.... most marketing campaigns can be easily fixed when something initially goes wrong.
Think about that for a little bit the next time you start playing the "What If I fail" game in your head.
And instead remember that if something doesn't go according to plan; that you can always pivot and make adjustments.
Cheers,
Dino
P.S. I've opened up some Rapid Fire consulting session this week.
