Internal linking is the most overlooked ranking factor in local SEO.
Internal linking is the most overlooked ranking factor in local SEO.
I'm not even exaggerating.
Every week I audit sites and find the same problem: pages sitting there with zero internal links pointing to them.
Orphan pages. Just floating in space. Google can barely find them.
Here's what we do for every client:
For each service page, we link 2-3 times from other pages on the site — using the target keyword as anchor text.
That's it.
Example: If we want to rank the "water heater repair" page, we:
  • Link from the homepage using "water heater repair" anchor text
  • Link from the "plumbing services" page
  • Link from a blog post about "signs you need a new water heater"
FREE Takes 10 minutes. Costs nothing.
I've seen pages move up 5-10 positions from internal linking alone. No backlinks built. Just connecting the dots on their own site.
Google follows links. If you're not linking to your important pages, you're telling Google they're not important.
Most of your competitors will never do this.
That's your advantage.
Try this and let me know!
