START HERE - Welcome to The Retirement Mentor
I’ll be honest with you: retirement came for me a little sooner than I’d planned. And when it did, the finances weren’t quite where I had expected them to be - mainly due to a little property misadventure, which is another story in itself. But what really caught me out was the loss of routine. The odd sense that I had somehow become invisible. The nagging voice asking, ‘Is this really it?’ - even though I was the one who was supposed to have it all figured out. Nobody really talks about that bit. And that is exactly why I built this. I’m Roger. I spent my professional career as an accountant, so I’m pretty comfortable with the numbers, but I was definitely underprepared on the emotional front. This community exists because I went looking for support during that transition and couldn’t find anything that felt like it was written for men like me. This is a space for us to all learn from each other - about retirement money (not investment advice or pension plans), about identity, about purpose, and about what you actually want the next 20 to 30 years to look like. No cheerleading and pretending it’s all plain sailing. Just honest conversation and practical tools to help you find your footing. The starting point is the free Explorer membership, which lays the foundation with 2 free courses and other resources to get you started. Here's How it All Works: 🏛️ The Classroom - Here is where you will find the free courses and some resources to get you started. There are also free introductory sessions introducing you to the Navigator and Compass programmes should you wish to go deeper. 🙂 The Community - this is the hub for news, chat and mutual support on all things retirement. If you have any worries, concerns or suggestions for adding content to this site, raise them here. Let's make this a welcoming place for anyone who is worried about retiring or finding the transition to retirement difficult. ❓ Getting Help - Have you got a question? Raise it here in the community - I'm here every day, and I promise you an answer within 24 hours. Let me know if you get stuck on anything or are not sure how to progress.

Introduction
Hello everyone, My name is Martin Stow and I am joining from Victoria, Australia. Originally from Yorkshire in the UK, I served for 15 years as a police officer with West Yorkshire Police before emigrating to Australia in 1988. Since then I have worked in training, emergency management, community projects and volunteer organisations. I am also living with Primary Progressive MS, which has taught me a great deal about resilience, adapting to change, and finding purpose when life doesn't always go to plan. Over the years I have been involved with Rotary, community support projects, drought relief for farmers, Neighbourhood Watch, and more recently I have created the Caring and Sharing community, which focuses on kindness, connection and supporting people through life's transitions, particularly retirement and major life changes. I joined The Resilience Lab because I believe resilience is not something we build alone. We grow stronger through connection, shared experiences and helping one another. I'm looking forward to learning from others, sharing what I've learned along the way, and contributing wherever I can. Thank you for having me. Martin
