Doomscrolling on Instagram yesterday paid off when I scrolled past this new release! You’d never guess it by my red hair and freckles, but my DNA is largely Irish. Haha. My ancestors came to the US during the famine and it led to generations of trauma. Part of my healing path has been reconnecting with my ancestors and all that generational matrilineal wounding. As I’ve learned more about them, Ive been fascinated by keening, especially since large swaths of my ancestors came from the west of Ireland and areas with ancient ritualistic practices and where the language and traditions weren’t completely wiped out by colonization. Kinda cool that my people come from and have deep history in areas near ancient ritualistic sites. As near as I can tell, my family likely still spoke Irish until about four generations ago. Anywho, I ordered this newly released book to aid me in my grief over so many things right now, but mostly the person I had to be in order to survive. and for my ancestors. There’s been something magical and ethereal about learning about Irish herbal medicine and learning the Irish language as I’ve walked this part of my path. I don’t think it’s an accident that I’ve been reconnecting with my ancestors at this juncture.
