📌 How to Make a Pinterest Pin Go Viral
There is a lot of Pinterest advice that makes getting traction sound like you need to become a full-time Pinterest creator. More followers. More Pins. More boards. More content. More activity. More everything. 😵💫 But Pinterest isn't really a follower-first platform. 🔎 It's a discovery platform. Someone doesn't need to know who you are, follow you, subscribe to your newsletter or have ever seen your face before for Pinterest to put one of your Pins in front of them. They simply need to be looking for something you have. And that means you don't need a bazillion followers for a Pin to take off. The basic formula is surprisingly simple: 🔥 Find something people are looking for → Create a Pin specifically for that search → Put it somewhere Pinterest understands. That's it. Now, nobody can guarantee a Pin will go viral. Pinterest decides what gets distributed, and humans decide what they click and save. But if you want to give a Pin the best opportunity to spread, there are three things I'd concentrate on. 🔥 1. Pick Something People Are Already Looking For Don't start in Canva. Start with search intent. Look for a keyword or topic that's trending, seasonal or getting meaningful search activity on Pinterest. But here's the important part: 🎯 It also needs to connect with something you genuinely have an answer for. Let's say you write about gardening and discover people are searching for: starting seeds indoors for beginners Fantastic - if you already have useful content about starting seeds indoors. Or maybe you teach Substack and discover Pinterest is surfacing searches around: Substack strategy for coaches If you've already created an article, podcast episode, resource or lesson that answers that search, you've got the beginning of an Intentional Pin. This is one of the biggest shifts we make here. Instead of: ❌ “I need to make a Pin. What should I create?” Ask: ✅ “I've already created something useful. What are people searching for that this could help them with?”

Share Your Pin Add your Pin to the comments on the sharing post. Include: Pin title: Pinterest link: What it's about: One sentence is plenty. You can also add the Pin image to your comment so people can see it at a glance, but that's completely optional. Keep it simple. You don't need to write a whole new post about your Pin. Browse Intentionally If Money, Finance & Career overlaps with your own content and Pinterest boards, take a look through the Pins other members have shared. When you find something that's genuinely relevant to your audience and would naturally belong on one of your boards, click through to Pinterest and save it. There is no required reciprocity. 📌 Before You Post Another Pin...
Make Sure Pinterest Knows What You’re About I set up a brand-new Pinterest account for Hobo Homesteading today, and I didn’t begin by randomly posting a bunch of Pins. Before I created the account, I decided what I wanted Hobo Homesteading to be found for: 🌱 Simple homesteading for beginners 🥕 Growing food and gardening 🍞 Homemade bread and from-scratch recipes 🐐 Backyard animals 🛠️ DIY projects and making do 📚 Homeschooling and practical life skills From there, I created a keyword-rich profile and seven carefully aligned boards. I decided which board would hold only my original Hobo Homesteading content and which topical boards I would carefully seed with relevant Pins from other creators. Only then did I begin creating my own Pins. Why? Because even a beautifully designed, well-researched Pin can struggle when Pinterest doesn’t understand the account it belongs to. 🧭 The Four Layers of Pinterest Alignment For a Pin to have the best chance of reaching the right people, these four layers should tell Pinterest-and the person who finds it-the same story: 1️⃣ Your Profile Your profile tells Pinterest what your entire account is about. Someone visiting your profile should immediately understand what kind of content they’ll find and whether it’s meant for them. 2️⃣ Your Board The board gives Pinterest more specific context. A Pin about raising goats for beginners makes sense on a board called Backyard Animals & Small Homesteads. It would make much less sense tucked inside a broad board called Things I Love. Pinterest shouldn’t have to guess why a Pin belongs there. 3️⃣ Your Pin Each Pin should focus on a specific search, question, desire, or problem. Instead of simply calling my goat Pin “I Thought My Goats Were Broken,” I titled it: Raising Goats for Beginners: I Thought My First Goats Were Broken The personality is still there, but now Pinterest can also understand what the story is about-and the right person has a reason to click. 4️⃣ Your Destination
