Self-Assessment: Your Leadership Starting Point
Take a moment to reflect on one (or more) of these questions: a) When you think of "leaders" in aviation, who comes to mind and why? What specific behaviors make them effective? b) Recall a flight or operational situation where leadership made the difference between a good outcome and a poor one. What did the leader do specifically? c) On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your current leadership abilities in - Building trust quickly with new crew members - Speaking up when you see safety concerns - Encouraging others to voice concerns - Managing conflicts constructively - Making decisions under pressure with team input d) What's one leadership behavior you want to develop through this series? Make sure to engage with at least one other member’s post — leadership grows in community! (This is self-reflection module #1 of the Essential Leadership mini-course)

Leading through the storm ⚓
This isn't strictly aviation related, but more a life skill I continue to pursue. Leadership is, at the core, the ability to relate to those around you in a way through which you can help them see the brighter hope ahead. It's about being a lighthouse in the often chaotic world. Here are some of my notes, compiled in a PDF format which I hope will resonate with you. If you like this, give me your thoughts on if you'd like to see a micro course on it!

New to the group
Hello aviation enthusiasts! I’m Ian Stewart, a curious learner and life long student of aviation. I’m a husband, father of two, and a T&S Captain at AirSprint Private Aviation. I’m both a mentor and (will forever be a) student, and I’d like to give as much as possible back to our community. I’ve held a pilots license for 22 years, and began my journey in a teaching role 4 years ago. Since then I’ve realized the best possible outcome for a safer aviation is through mentorship and giving as much as possible to future aviators. I’d be delighted to meet you all, and hope to find new skills and master old ones while here!
