Too often…
The only reason a couple stays married is because of their relationship with Jesus.
Or the only reason a spouse doesn’t cheat is because of their relationship with Jesus.
They believe in covenant and don’t want to break it.
Obviously, this is super important if a marriage is in a tough season, and I’m not talking about those seasons. I’m talking about when those seasons keep going and going.
Changes aren’t made.
Sometimes not even attempted.
And one of the spouses stays in the marriage no matter what, because of their relationship with Jesus.
But the tough season turns into a tough life.
Of course, I’m not recommending ending marriages, but what I’m getting to is that marriages need to stay together during tough seasons because of Jesus, but Jesus also wants to turn the tough season into something better.
Waters bursting forth in the wilderness.
Streams in the desert.
Parched ground becoming a pool.
Thirsty land springs of water.
In other words, while it’s important to stay together in tough seasons because of the Lord, one BIG goal of the Lord is to heal the marriage in such a way that it stays together because the husband and wife are truly connected.
It’s enjoyable most of the time.
They like each other again.
They are friends again.
They are lovers again.
So while it’s crucial to stay together in tough seasons, it’s equally critical they get to a place where anything else would seem foolish.
