Devotional: When the Fields Don’t Go as Planned
There’s something powerful about a farmer. A farmer prepares the soil, plants the seed, and works hard expecting a harvest. He does everything he knows to do—but even the best farmer understands that not everything goes according to plan. Sometimes a sudden frost comes. Sometimes too much rain floods the fields. Sometimes a dry season stretches longer than expected. And in a moment, what once looked promising can feel uncertain. And if we’re honest… life can feel the same way. We make plans. We put in the work. We try to do what’s right. But then something unexpected happens—and it doesn’t just affect our circumstances, it affects us. You feel it in your body. That tightness in your chest. That knot in your stomach. Scripture speaks right into that reality: “Anxiety in a person’s heart weighs it down, but a good word makes it glad.” — Proverbs 12:25 (NLT) That weight is real. And just like a farmer can’t control the weather, we can’t control everything that comes our way. But here’s where the farmer teaches us something deeper. After he’s done all he can do, he has to trust God with what he cannot control. He releases the outcome, knowing the harvest is ultimately in God’s hands. And that’s the same invitation we’re given. Because when the weight feels heavy and the stress starts to overwhelm, Jesus doesn’t tell us to try harder—He tells us to come to Him: “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28 (NLT) That means even when the situation hasn’t changed, something inside of us can. God’s Word reminds us how: “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything… Then you will experience God’s peace…” — Philippians 4:6–7 (NLT) So when life throws something unexpected your way—when the “field” doesn’t look like you thought it would—remember this: You are not in control of everything… but you are cared for by the One who is. “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.”

Devotional: Trusting God Through Life’s Cold Fronts
This morning felt like a surprise. Just yesterday, it felt like spring had fully arrived. Warm air, sunshine, everything pointing toward new life and fresh beginnings. And then—out of nowhere—a cold snap. Temperatures dropped, the air turned sharp, and suddenly it didn’t feel like spring at all. And isn’t that just like life? Sometimes we expect good things… and something hard shows up. Other times, we brace ourselves for the worst… and God surprises us with something beautiful. Jesus reminds us in Matthew 5:45 that “He sends rain on the just and the unjust alike.” In other words, life doesn’t always unfold based on what we expect or even what we think we deserve. The rain comes. The cold fronts hit. The seasons shift—sometimes without warning. But here’s the truth we can hold onto: God doesn’t change… even when the weather does. Whether you're walking through a season of warmth and blessing, or you’ve suddenly stepped into something cold and difficult, your calling is the same—trust Him. Trust Him in the sunshine. Trust Him in the storm. Trust Him when life feels predictable… and when it doesn’t. Because just like that cold snap this morning, seasons don’t last forever. What feels uncomfortable now is still under God’s control. He is just as present in the unexpected as He is in the planned. So if today feels like a “cold front” in your life—don’t lose heart. God is still working. God is still good. And spring is still coming. Prayer Father, thank You that You are constant even when life is not. Help me to trust You in every season—the good, the hard, and the unexpected. When things don’t go the way I planned, remind me that You are still in control. Strengthen my faith today, and help me walk forward with peace, knowing You are with me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Devotional: Trusting God Through Life’s Cold Fronts
A New Beginning at the Bird Feeder
There is something special about new beginnings. A new adventure, a new goal, a new way of doing things can feel exciting, but it can also feel uncertain. Sometimes we wait for the perfect moment to begin. We wait until we feel more ready, more confident, or more sure of how everything will turn out. But often, God calls us to step forward in faith before we have it all figured out. That is how many good things begin. We simply start. This bird group is one of those new beginnings for me. It is my first post, and I just wanted to share something meaningful. This is the first bird I ever caught at my bird feeder—a beautiful cardinal. To some, it may just seem like a bird stopping by for a few moments. But to me, it means more. My grandfather loved birds. Because of that, every time I see one, it stirs something deeper in me. The birds remind me not only of the beauty of God’s creation, but also of the memory of my grandfather. In a simple moment at the feeder, I feel closer to God, and in a tender, personal way, I also feel close to him. That is part of why starting this group matters to me. This is not just about birds. This is about wonder. It is about paying attention. It is about pursuing something God has placed on my heart. It is about embracing a new passion and being willing to begin, even if it starts small. Sometimes the first step toward a new goal is not a giant leap. Sometimes it is just sharing the first post. Setting out the feeder. Noticing the first bird. Trusting God with the rest. God often uses small beginnings to awaken joy, purpose, and direction in our lives. He invites us to move forward, to try something new, and to follow the passions He has planted inside us. When we do, we often find that He was already there, waiting for us in the very thing we felt led to begin. So today, whether it is a new dream, a new habit, a new ministry, or a new adventure, do not be afraid to begin. Go after what God has placed in your heart. Start where you are. Use what you have. Trust Him with the outcome.
