Psalm 1:2-6
I know I shared a long wind text about psalm 1:1 but I want to share again my thoughts on 2-6 and try to be more brief But his delight is in the law of Yahweh, And in His law he meditates day and night. And he will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, But they are like chaff which the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not rise in the judgment, Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For Yahweh knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the wicked will perish. Psalm 1 doesn’t just tell us what the blessed life avoids it shows us what it becomes. The blessed person delights in the law of Yahweh. This isn’t just rule-keeping. It’s affection. God’s Word isn’t a burden to him it’s a joy. He doesn’t meditate on it occasionally but day and night. That means God’s truth slowly shapes how he thinks desires, and lives. Because of that, he is like a tree planted by streams of water. Not wild. Not accidental. He is intentionally placed by God where life flows. He bears fruit in season his leaf does not wither and in all that he does he prospers not in worldly success but in spiritual stability, endurance, and faithfulness. The wicked, by contrast, are not that. They are compared to chaff light, rootless, blown away by the wind(the Hebrew word used for wind is the same as the one for the Holy Spirit.) They may appear strong for a time but they have no lasting weight or permanence. In the end they will not stand in the judgment. The psalm closes with this great truth “For Yahweh knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.” To be “known” by the Lord is more than awareness it is the Lords care, protection, and personal concern. To sum all this up, Psalm 1 points us to Christ. Jesus is the truly blessed Man who perfectly delighted in God’s law and walked the righteous path for us. In Him we are brought into this blessed life not by our works but by grace.
Psalm 1:1
Psalm 1:1 How blessed is the man Who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the way of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers, But his delight is in the law of Yahweh. What does it mean to be blessed? The CSB translation would say happy, but in this case that’s not what is meant. “Blessed” here speaks of a life that is rightly ordered before God living in the favor of the Lord. This blessing is not earned, but it is revealed in the life of the one who belongs to Him. The rest of this verse gives us a clear picture of what the life of a blessed person looks like. It all happens in the first Psalm, the first book of the five books of Psalms, and right in the first verse. What does walk mean? Walk is your way of life, how you live. We are called to pick up our cross daily and walk with the Lord, not according to the counsel of the “wicked” or in this case unbelievers. Next, what does stand mean? Stand speaks to your position and identity. You’ve heard the phrase “What do you stand for?” We are to stand on God’s Word as absolute truth and let it be the source of direction for our lives. We don’t take our stand according to sinners but according to what God has laid out for us. Now sit… what does that mean? Where you sit is who you associate with and assemble alongside. If you regularly place yourself among those who scoff at God or speak against God-fearing, God-honoring people, it will shape you. As the saying goes, birds of a feather flock together. We are called to assemble with men and women of God, who help keep us pointed toward a Christlike identity. By the way, the opening of the verse “Blessed is the man” uses a Hebrew word that is masculine in form but means person. This applies to everyone male and female alike. So the message of this verse can be understood like this: “The best way for a person to live is to live in light of God’s favor. The way we live is shaped by the counsel we listen to, the truth we stand on, and the people we walk alongside. Our identity is formed by God’s Word and by the example God Himself has shown through His teachings. We are called to live within a community of believers, not among those who live for the world and not for Christ.”
The problem: Most Bible studies either avoid hard questions about Genesis — or shut them down
Here, we: • Ask honest questions without pressure • Read Scripture deeply, not defensively • Explore how faith and science address different kinds of truth • Build confidence in the Bible without ignoring real challenges This isn’t about winning arguments. It’s about understanding the text. If this resonates, jump in with one question you’ve always had about Genesis but never felt comfortable asking. No wrong questions here — honest curiosity is welcome.
