As we’re well into 2026, I find myself still planning, dreaming, and thinking about how I want this year to feel, not just what I want to accomplish. And there are two words that keep coming to mind over and over again:
Easy and light.
They’re inspired by the words of Jesus in Matthew 11:30, when He tells us that His yoke is easy and His burden is light, and that we find rest when we come to Him.
When it comes to entrepreneurship and content creation, there can often feel like a clash here. We’re told that to earn more, we have to work harder. That success requires hustle, exhaustion, and showing up everywhere, all the time, far beyond our capacity.
But that message is completely counter to the words of Jesus.
And deep down, I know it isn’t true.
We don’t need to do all of that. In fact, so much of business, life, and creativity becomes heavy because we overcomplicate what Jesus makes simple. He says, Come to Me. When we make Jesus the priority, even in our businesses and content, there should be a natural sense of alignment, flow, and peace.
That doesn’t mean there won’t be challenges or obstacles. It means we’re not meant to carry unnecessary weight.
For me, keeping things easy and light this year looks like a few intentional choices.
First, I’m committing to doing work I genuinely enjoy. So often, we feel pressure to do things simply because someone else says it’s the path to success, or because it worked for them. But if it’s not aligned with the gifts and talents God has given you, it will always feel heavy. Ask yourself: What do I enjoy doing? Because what brings you life is often deeply connected to what you’re called to do.
Second, I want to make more time to celebrate and connect. Last week, I celebrated my 40th birthday with a planner party, because I love planners, and invited some of my closest friends to create vision boards together. This past weekend, I traveled to Texas to celebrate my dad’s 70th birthday with family, good food, and lots of laughter. These milestone moments reminded me that I don’t want to rush past life chasing a finish line. If we’re always focused on what hasn’t happened yet, we miss the joy of being in the race at all.
Finally, to keep things easy and light, I’m choosing to subtract in order to add. So often we believe that to get more, we have to do more. But the opposite is usually true. Instead of asking, What else do I need to do? I’m asking, What do I need to stop doing? What are your priorities, and what’s getting in the way of them?
- Maybe you think you need to be on three platforms, when one would be enough.
- Maybe you planned weekly calls, when two a month would serve better.
- Maybe you’re saying yes to too many commitments that are pulling you away from what matters most.
Cutting back can be the fastest path to clarity and fruitfulness, even though it’s hard.
This year, I want you to get clear on what you truly want, and lovingly release everything else. You weren’t meant to carry what isn’t yours to carry. It will only weigh you down.
Jesus invites us to walk with Him; easy and light.
My prayer for you this week is that you feel the freedom to lay some things down, trust God more deeply, and move forward with peace, not pressure.
