Global News Interview
I was incredibly grateful to share my passion and creativity with Sheridan College over the years. The students are always so eager to learn about West African Adinkra Symbols and to create beautiful Art. In this interview I shared about the deep meaning of the Adinkra Symbol called the Sankofa. Its all about looking back to the wisdom of the past and sharing that wisdom with the next generation. Since Yonge Dundas Square was renamed, "Sankofa Square" many people had questions about the meaning of this Ghanaian word. "Sankofa is a Twi word and Adinkra symbol from the Akan tribe of Ghana, translating to "go back and get it" or "it is not taboo to fetch what is at risk of being left behind". It embodies learning from the past to build a better future, symbolized by a bird looking backward while moving forward." This is an energy that we can all relate to as we preserve the wisdom of the past so we can share it with the next generation. What are traditions that you would like to see continued in your family from your culture? https://globalnews.ca/video/10327856/black-history-month-learning-about-the-ancient-african-concept-of-sankofa
