nobody shows you this graph.
everyone chasing virality is chasing the red line. one post pops off, you get a rush of numbers you don’t know what to do with, and by week 3 it’s back to nothing. worse than nothing, actually because now every post after it gets compared to a spike you can’t recreate on command.
the blue line is boring for the first four months. genuinely boring. same effort, same posting rhythm, numbers that barely move. most people quit right there, convinced the system doesn’t work, and go chase another spike instead.
but the blue line isn’t doing nothing. every post is teaching someone’s brain what your content looks like before they’ve read your name. every post is making the next one easier to recognize. that compounding doesn’t show up on a graph for months and then it doesn’t stop.
i’ve said this before and i’ll keep saying it: recognition beats virality every single time, because virality is a lottery ticket and recognition is a system. one of them you get once. the other you get to keep.
if you’re 4 months into posting and nothing’s “happening”, check if you’re actually on the blue line before you assume it’s broken. most people quit right before the curve bends up.
