I was standing in front of a foodball table in a dim lit room on an early monday morning.
My opponent, a seasoned player.
He had played foosball for more than 20 years of his life.
I had started playing a couple months back, when I had joined this new job.
In fact, my opponent/my friend had taught me how to play it in the first place.
The problem now was that I wanted to win.
But how could I?
He was a pro.
20 years of experience.
And I was a newbie...
We made a bet, "Loser buys coffee."
We both agreed.
And,
I lost.
As expected, how could I win?
I said to my friend, "I will beat u one day!"
He replied, "One day, but not today."
This went on for months. I could never beat him.
I would get really close to winning... then lose my focus and end up losing somehow...
But,
One day something happened.
After I lost a match. My friend said something to me.
He said,
"You know you have the ability to beat me. You have improved a lot. But you don't believe that u can do it.
You think just because I have played it for 20 years, it's impossible to beat me. But in reality, you can easily beat me if u wanted to."
I said, "But I do want to beat you."
"Yes, but you don't think you can beat me today. Do you?", he said.
"I doubt it, but I will one day," I replied.
He said, "That is not belief. That's a dream. If you want to beat me, you have to believe that you can beat me today - not some day in the future."
That day I understood something!
The importance of "RIGHT NOW!"
"THE PRESENT"
So, I took his advice.
I started to think to myself that I will beat him now.
Every game I played. I played to win that game, in the present, not some day in future.
And...
2 days later, something crazy happened.
We made a bigger bet.
"The loser buys lunch!"
I said, "I will win this time."
He said, "One day but not today."
I said, " I will win now. In this moment."
We played, and...
After months of losing, I finally WON!
And since that day, I have won a lot more, lunches coffees, etc., etc.
The point is,
"The future is a lie. You have to have it now or you will never have it."
You say, "One day, I will be rich. One day, I will have a pretty girlfriend. One day, I will win."
That "ONE DAY" will never come.
You either have it now. Or you dont.
I know the concept can be confusing.
So tell me what did you understand and what doubts do you have.
