The Importance of Going Beyond Tuition for 11 Plus Success
As you are a month into preparing your child for the 11 Plus exam, I want to share some insights on why tuition alone may not suffice to ensure success. Today, I will be hosting a webinar at 7pm to discuss this topic in detail. I will also share links that will help you do this in real-time. Click here to register for the webinar. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the meeting. Why Tuition Isn’t Enough While tuition provides a solid foundation by covering the core subjects and skills tested in the 11 Plus, it often focuses on a general curriculum that may not address individual weaknesses or foster the depth of understanding needed to excel. It’s essential to supplement tuition with additional strategies to give your child the best chance of success. The Role of Extra Work Consistent practice is crucial in the journey towards passing the 11 Plus. Here are some reasons why extra practice can make the difference. - Tailored Learning: Extra practice allows for customised study plans that target your child’s specific areas of improvement. - Confidence Building: Familiarity with the exam format and types of questions can significantly boost a child’s confidence. - Skill Enhancement: Regular practice helps refine problem-solving skills and time management, both critical for the exam. Recommended Resources To support your child beyond tuition, consider utilising the following resources: - Workbooks and Practice Papers: These provide targeted exercises in verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning, mathematics, and English. - Online Platforms: Websites like Bond Online, BOFA and Atom Learning offer interactive exercises and mock tests. - Study Groups: Encouraging your child to join study groups can foster peer learning and motivation. - Educational Apps: Apps like Quizlet can make learning more engaging and accessible. I’ll be covering more about these resources and how to effectively integrate them into your child’s study routine in today’s webinar.

Time Management and Answers in Learning Journey Lessons
Hello parents and guardians, It’s been a fantastic first half term - the enthusiasm and progress from both groups have been brilliant! Just some clarification on marking and time management in the sessions. To make the most of lesson time, I often ask pupils to share quick answers aloud or in the chat. For longer exercises, I may show the answers briefly and ask pupils to use the lesson recording to finish marking. Also: if pupils don’t finish all the work in lesson time, they’re welcome to complete it later as optional homework using the recording to check answers. This approach keeps lessons fast-paced and focused on learning new skills, rather than spending too long marking when pupils have already shown they understand the key ideas. Recordings are uploaded on the same page as the worksheets - I add them within a day of each lesson. Thank you for your continued support, Dale

Free Trial Period – Week 2 Schedule, Links & Worksheets
A few parents messaged me to ask for my opinion and recommendation because their child is in year 5, and they think it is too late. They decide it, and that's it. The competition is high, which we all agree on but I know that it is never too late for the real thing, which is learning, doing and getting ahead. And this is how I approached the 11 plus test years ago with my children. My oldest was in Year 5 when we started the prep, and he wrote 9 or 10 tests (which I do not recommend). We started at home for the younger one earlier, without speaking about the 11 plus. It meant it was better paced and better planned. However, the stress at the end of year 5 was similar, and that was mainly because he wrote 3 tests and had about a handful of options since we had moved and the list of schools had narrowed. It is never too late. This is what I mean when I say it. You need to approach this as an effort-led journey, not an outcome-led journey. We said, if it happens, great; if it doesn't, we will get a school that is good for the boys. And that's what happened. Take it as a 'with or without that school' approach, and you will see that your effort will be as enjoyable as the outcome. Succeed or Learn. We win either way. I recommend you to join Week 2 of the free trial for Years 4 and 5. The link to register is this one here. For parents on this year's LJ programs, links will be in SKOOL Calendar and worksheets in your relevant learning vaults. And for those starting secondary school soon, all the best in your new journey. Join the Oxbridge & University Journey Facebook group.
