If you’ve ever heard people talk about:
• Custom Instructions• GPTs• Projects
…and thought:
“Hang on… what’s the difference?” 😅
𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐈𝐌𝐏𝐋𝐄 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧.
𝟏. 𝐂𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 = 𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐘𝐎𝐔
This tells ChatGPT things that stay the same all the time.
Like:
- your business
- your tone
- who you help
- your goals
📍You’ll find this in: Settings → Personalization → Custom Instructions
You usually set this up once.
𝟐. 𝐆𝐏𝐓𝐬 = 𝐀 𝐓𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐉𝐨𝐛
Think of a GPT like hiring a specialist.
For example:
- a Hook Writer GPT
- an Email Writer GPT
- a Pinterest Assistant GPT
You create it once, and reuse it whenever needed.
📍You’ll find these under:Explore GPTs
𝟑. 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 = 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐏𝐢𝐞𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤
Projects help keep everything organised for ONE topic.
For example:
- building a course
- planning a launch
- creating content for one client
- writing an ebook
You can add files, notes, and instructions that ONLY apply inside that project.
📍You’ll find Projects on the left-hand side in ChatGPT.
The easiest way to remember it:
👉 Custom Instructions = who YOU are
👉 GPTs = what the AI DOES
👉 Projects = what you’re WORKING ON right now
That one shift makes ChatGPT much less confusing 😊
