The algorithm doesn't stop watching when your video ends.
Most creators obsess over CTR and AVD. Almost nobody talks about what happens after the video ends — and it's costing them distribution every single week.
YouTube tracks session continuation. When someone finishes your video and immediately watches another YouTube video — especially one from your channel — that's a signal. It tells the algorithm your content is worth investing in because viewers don't leave YouTube after watching you. They stay.
When someone finishes your video and closes the app — that's also a signal. A negative one.
The end screen is your last 20 seconds. Most creators waste it with a logo animation or a generic "subscribe" ask. What it should be is a direct handoff — one specific video, one reason to click it right now, delivered before the viewer's attention moves elsewhere.
"If you watched this far you'll want to see this next" is more powerful than "don't forget to like and subscribe."
Session continuation is the third signal most creators never think about. CTR gets them there. AVD keeps them. Session continuation tells the algorithm whether you're worth the next viewer.
