Portrait painting tutorial #1
I am a firm believer in fundamentals. Drawing always precedes painting. So I figured I would make some content for the classroom on some basic things.
When painting in Oils, use a paint rag. Erase the whole face if you have to. But get the drawing right in oils before going too crazy with extra. 🤪
Palette setup is :
Burnt Umber
Burnt Sienna
Raw Umber ( for the cool midtones in the shadows)
Yellow Ochre and
Titanium White
Also I threw in ultramarine blue to use for the sky blue tones and mixed into the skin midtones occasionally. It’s complicated and I hope this video starts to help break that difficulty down into digestible chunks.
Thanks for joining my Skool on Surrealism and Visionary Art. Please post some of your own work into the forums and please ask any questions that come to mind.
We have two new members, thank you for coming. Please bear with me as I slowly build up the content for the classroom here.
