🦿Robot Legs from China + Tech Education
Last night’s live was great!
We spoke about AI ethics, vibe coding, security protocols for the products you’re building, and AI replacing jobs.
I mentioned that last Spring I visited Japan and South Korea. It’s no secret those two countries are leading the globe in pop culture (anime, K-drama, + K-pop) as well as science, math, and technology. Our team’s former intern has been MIA because she’s preparing for law school, but her parents are from Houston, Texas and Seoul, South Korea. She has dual citizenship.
She’s always stating how surprised she is in the differences between her home city of Houston, Texas compared to even a small town in her mom’s country - in size of population, infrastructure, and tech. She always says she’s surprised America continues to call itself the greatest country in the world when basic amenities, cleanliness, infrastructure like roads and bridges, and the education system lags behind. I saw the same thing when I visited for my two weeks. My friends in the military stationed in Japan never want to leave.
The attached video is about tech in China, but South Korea and Japan are a close 2nd and 3rd, based on what I saw. The reason they are beating us in science, math, and technology is because education is promoted in society from toddlers to the elderly. For them, technology is used to better society, such as these robot legs. I went on a tour of a famous monument that sits on top of a steep incline in Kyoto. I rented robot legs similar to these in the video for one hour for $25 American, like it was nothing. Did you know 40% of the robots processed in the world are produced and bought in China?
If you have kids or know young people, I’d suggest you’d encourage them to start learning science, math, coding, and AI outside of what they’re being taught in school. They are going to grow up in a VERY different world where America may no longer be a superpower, based on the current trajectory of things. While our kids are playing Roblox and dancing on TikTok, many children from the Asian and African continents are studying to better not just themselves, but their entire society.
I love being an American… doesn’t mean we don’t have room to grow, especially in how we are preparing our youth for a changing world. Americans and non-Americans… what do you think of these robot legs, and tech, math, science education where you’re from as a whole?
