Studies in Illumination is a community devoted to exploring how light becomes image.
This space is for photographers, filmmakers, printers, and image makers interested in the full journey of illumination, from the moment light touches a surface to the processes that transform it into something we can see, hold, or experience.
We study how light is captured through sensors, film, and emulsion, shaped through editing and color, and translated into physical and digital forms. Darkroom printing, cyanotype, riso, projection, digital workflows, and experimental techniques all live here.
Rather than focusing on a single medium, Studies in Illumination explores the broader craft of image making. Members share work, experiment with new processes, discuss tools and technique, and learn how to move an image from capture to its final form, whether that is a photograph, a film, a print, a book, or a projection.
