A Thing About Money vs Currency
From the beginning of this video, I was immediately reminded what money actually is. Money is currency, but I think there are times that we forget what currency is. Currency is, as defined by Meriam-Webster, is a circulation as a medium of exchange. At the core, that is EXACTLY what money is -- a circulation as a medium of exchange. Also in some communities (especially in various spiritual communities), money is considered to be energy. Moreover, it's understood that where you put your energy (or money) is where you will get the most sense of fruition and fulfillment.
I grew up with the narrative that money was the root of evil. This was so ingrained in me throughout my life that if I ever had to ask for help financially (even if I was able to cover half of expenses that I myself needed), I would end up crying because I felt like I was asking for the worst part of a person if I didn't work for the money I was asking for. I was the person that would give money freely away because I felt like holding on to it was dishonorable in some sense, but at the same time, I also didn't know what it meant to invest in myself and that money could otherwise be used for good. Even today, I'm still working on changing this narrative of money being the root of all evil. It's not so bad now (not nearly as it once was since engaging in my own shadow work surrounding money), but there's still much around this paradigm shift I'm working through.
With all this mentioned, I'm curious as to some of the other beliefs others might hold regarding money. What are some of the narratives you hold about money? What are your thoughts on what money can look like aside either the form of cash or just numbers? Moreover, what do you consider to be a form of currency besides money itself that's just as valuable?
