Progress is happening! I'm 5 scenes behind where I should be to stay on track with my two-scenes-per-day goal, but I had a huge writing session today and knocked out a ton. I finally passed the midpoint in my WIP, and things are going WAY faster now. I love the feeling of getting involved in my own book, and I'm starting to taste that feeling again after MONTHS of feeling like I'm swimming through mud with this edit. Onward we go, with a cute tracker keeping me motivated 😂
I had a very astute comment from a member of my writing group that had me rethinking some of my story progression. But instead of letting it derail me completely (which it might have done without this challenge) I wrote a couple thousand words to stick in between two earlier chapters. Don't worry, I'm not going to go back and fix everything right now, but I think this anchor point might be helpful in my first revision.
I just finished what I hope is the last edit on the sequel to my steampunk novel, its titled CORSAIR AND THE TEMPLE OF THE HEAVENLY CHARIOT. 74,400 words, about 10,000 less than the first draft. Now, to get it published by next year.
Word count: 5542 I had a good thing going for the first five days, then I missed a day . . . and then another . . . and now here we are 😅 My strategy was writing at night after work, but naturally it became more enticing to do other things instead. So my new plan is to write in the morning, or at least earlier in the day rather than just saving writing for last. I’m not so far behind I can’t catch up, so here’s to being on track at my week 2 check-in!
