The slow recruiting period of late summer and early fall is firmly in the rearview mirror. Over the past few months, several of New England’s top boys’ players in the Class of 2026 and 2027 have announced their college commitments to some of the top Division 1 programs in the region and beyond.
Take Beachside SC, for example. The Norwalk, Conn. club had five MLS Next players commit to Division 1 programs in October and November—highlighting a recent surge in activity. Meanwhile, players from IFA New England, NEFC, and FC Greater Boston Bolts also inked college commitments.
Here’s a breakdown of the latest boys’ recruiting news:
Beachside Finds Its D1 Stride
Beachside director Mickey Kydes revealed last spring that his club had struggled recently to produce Division 1 commits—a stark contrast to the early 2010s when the club regularly sent multiple players to top programs each year. However, this fall, Beachside is back in the picture.
The club had five MLS Next players commit to Division 1 schools:
- Luca Scalera (Boston College) – A creative attacking midfielder with excellent vision and pace control.
- Lukas Syah (Seton Hall) – A physical striker and high-level finisher.
- Evan Moreira (Delaware) – An athletic midfielder known for his goal-scoring and motor.
- Spencer Osborne (Colgate) – A relentless ball pursuer and hard-working midfielder.
- Clem Cartwright (William & Mary) – A disciplined and composed center midfielder/defender.
Additionally, three Class of 2026 players committed to Division 3 schools:
- Arlo Sollinger (Colorado College)
- Zachary Magner (Carnegie Mellon)
- Alessandro Ochoa (Williams)
IFA, NEFC and FC Greater Boston Bolts add commits
Elsewhere around the region, IFA New England’s Owen Fadden committed to UNH. One of the top uncommitted players entering the fall, the Class of 2026 defender has anchored IFA’s backline the past few seasons, earning a spot on our MLS Next Best XI team. Fadden’s versatility, stout 1v1 defending and link-up play make him a great get for Wildcats coach Rich Weinrebe. Fadden isn’t the only standout Class of 2026 defender heading to a regional powerhouse. NEFC’s Luke Ceol, a 6-foot-2 center back who excels at aerial balls and isolated defending, committed to UMass and coach Fran O’Leary. He joins St. John’s Prep forward Garrison Murphy in the program’s Class of 2026. At FC Greater Boston Bolts, attacker Jonah Greenblatt committed to Boston University. Another standout last year at MLS Next Fest, Greenblatt is a physical and intelligent player who worked exceptionally well with U.S. Youth National team member and Duke commit Logan Moniz. The Bolts had another Division 1 commit in early-December when Killian Doherty, who played high school soccer at BC High, committed to Stonehill. Oakwood and Bayside see standouts go D1
One of the region’s top goalkeepers committed earlier in the fall when Oakwood keeper Andrew Sobieski chose Jacksonville. Sobieski won SCC Player of the Year honors this fall at Xaver High School and fielded several Division 1 offers. He joins Evan Stone (Hartford) and Matthew Maher (Springfield College) as recent Oakwood commitments in the Class of 2026.
Finally, Bayside FC had three Division 1 commitments in the fall. U-19 teammates Rudy Figueroa and Gabriel DaSilva both committed to Iona, while Desmond O’Connor signed with Providence.
Figueroa and DaSilva were both part of Bayside’s U-19 team last year that reached the semifinals of the Generation adidas cup qualifiers at MLS Next Fest. Figueroa was also recently called up to the U-20 Guatemalan National Team camp.
