Highlight Video Strategy: The CSN Standard!
Folks
I was just reviewing some film for one of our clients and it’s a good reminder of what actually works when you’re trying to catch a coach's eye.
To get a recruiter to stop and take notice, you have to follow a specific standard.
A college coach usually decides in about 30 seconds if a player is a fit for their roster. Here is the formula we use at CSN to make sure your film hits the mark:
  • Add some energy with audio: A silent video feels sterile. You need a soundtrack that builds a bit of tempo without being over the top. If the video has a heartbeat, the player looks more dynamic on the pitch.
  • The "Best Of" Structure: Coaches value their time, so lead with your best stuff.
  • The "Living" Reel: This is the most important bit—your video is a living document. You need to keep adding to it as you progress through the season. If you play a blinder this weekend and get a clip that’s better than your current #1, swap it in immediately. Showing coaches that you are getting better every single week is how you prove your value.
The Goal: Wow them in those first 15–30 seconds. This is your intro. If they want to see a full match, we can send them to your YouTube channel later to close the deal.
Have a look at your current "Intro 30 seconds" this weekend. If it doesn’t represent your absolute highest level of play right now, it’s time to update it.
See you in the trenches,
