Survival mode was a good design for the season you were in. It was never meant to be permanent housing. 🌿
To stay safe, you learned to quiet the parts of you that were too loud, too needy, too much. You built armor. It worked. That is the part nobody says out loud, that the armor was not a flaw, it was intelligent, and it kept you alive.
But the same armor that kept you safe then is what keeps you small now.
Taking it off is not forgetting where you have been. It is letting the parts you hid come home to someone who can finally keep them safe.
I wrote this because I spent years thinking I was doing the work when I was really just getting better at managing the symptoms.
