In English, we say: "I like Spanish."
In Spanish, the sentence flips completely.
❌ What English brains want to say: Yo gusto español.
✅ What Spanish actually says: Me gusta el español.
Literal translation: Spanish pleases me.
The THING you like is the subject. YOU are the object.
This changes everything with these verbs:
→ gustar — to like (pleases me)
→ encantar — to love (enchants me)
→ molestar — to bother (bothers me)
→ doler — to hurt (hurts me)
→ interesar — to interest (interests me)
So: Me duele la cabeza = My head hurts me
(literally: the head hurts me)
And: Nos encanta viajar = We love travelling
