Graduation Application
Here's something nobody mentions until it's almost too late.
At a lot of colleges, finishing your classes isn't enough to graduate. You also have to apply for graduation, by a deadline, and sometimes with a fee.
Some schools set that deadline early in your final semester. Others set it the semester before. Either way, it isn't part of any class, so it's easy to miss. And if you miss it, your degree can be pushed to the next term even if you've finished every requirement.
That can matter a lot. A job offer, a graduate program, or a license might depend on having that degree by a specific date.
So if you're within about a year of finishing, do these this week:
1. Look up your school's graduation application deadline. It's usually on the registrar's website.
2. Run your degree audit and look for anything marked incomplete or in progress.
3. Ask your advisor this question:
"When is the deadline to apply for graduation, and is my degree audit complete?"
4. Put the deadline in your calendar with a reminder a week before it.
If you're further from graduating, save this and come back to it. You'll be glad you did.
This is one of those things Spark-ED is here for. A lot of students in this community are the first in their families to go through college, and there may not be anyone at home who has filled out this form before. We can be that for each other. If you've already applied to graduate, share what the process looked like at your school so someone else knows what to expect.
Drop a comment: how far are you from graduating, and have you checked your deadline yet?
Here's to every one of you crossing that stage on time.
