Happy Dad's Day
Father's Day looks different depending on your experience. I'll be celebrating with my son today. He's an amazing Dad to my granddaughter.
I'm also celebrating my Dad who transitioned 8 years ago (my Mom 12). They had the most amazing marriage and truly loved each other and believed in one another. I was fortunate to grow up in a home where we'd catch my parents hugging and dancing in the kitchen. My sons also had them as good role models for a healthy relationship. I am grateful for that.
My Dad adopted my older sister and me when I was three-years old, and he and I had a complicated relationship during my late childhood and teenage years. He set the bar really high, which is why I have strong work ethics, deep inner convictions, and a zest for life. These characteristics weren't developed through good parenting but rather in defence of his military training. I became resilient, responsible, and self-reliant. Oddly enough, he was exactly the father I needed to become who I am today.
Who are you celebrating today?
