Tips and tricks that will keep you printing for longer whilst saving you headaches
Hey SOSO 3D Studio! 👋 I’m Stephen O’Keeffe, printing both FDM and Resin for over 5 years. If you want to start with the least chance of failure and frustration, here’s exactly what I recommend buying from day one: Resin Setup (High Success Rate) • Anycubic M7 Pro or Saturn Ultra 4 16K — excellent printers with big build volumes and reliable performance. • Anycubic Wash & UV Cure combo station • 3 litre Ultrasonic bath — makes cleaning prints so much easier. • Plenty of nitrile blue gloves, good face masks, and 10 litres of 99.9% Isopropyl Alcohol • 2 large IKEA nylon trays + a mountain of kitchen roll (you can never have enough) Resin choice: Start with quality ABS-like resin (not the cheap stuff). It smells less and gives you much stronger prints. FDM Setup • Creality K1 or Bambu Lab P1S — both are fast, reliable, and beginner-friendly right out of the box. Essential Tools • Good snips / flush cutters + metal files Bonus Habits That Save Headaches • Empty the resin vat completely after every print (non-negotiable) • Fill the whole build plate every time • Print at 100 microns when possible • Re-level if you knock or move anything This setup has kept my failure rate low and my enjoyment high. You don’t need to buy everything at once, but starting with the right gear makes a massive difference. What about you? 👇 What printer or piece of gear did you start with?
