Dedicated Email domain

I'm seeing stuff about a dedicated email domain in GHL, and heard you should create one but to use a subdomain. I created one, but it asks about email address. Should it match the subdomain? if that makes sense. Like for example if my subdomain was AIM.ascendantintelligencemedia.com should the email address I enter come from aim.ascendantintelligencemedia.com or should it come from my ascendantintelligencemedia.com? I'm assuming the latter because how would you get your email if someone replied? if that makes sense.
