Welcome to the Social Skills & Confidence Lab.
This is a practice-based community. You don’t need to be confident to participate — confidence comes from reps. Here’s how to start: - You don’t need to post perfectly - Short posts are encouraged - Reading and observing is okay at first - Trying the weekly skill once is enough I'd love it if you would introduce yourself below, keep it simple: - First name - One situation where you’d like more confidence - Or just say “Here to learn” — that counts This isn’t therapy and there’s no pressure to overshare. We focus on practical skills, clear thinking, and real-world practice. When you’re ready, jump into the Skill of the Week post. Glad you’re here.
Skill of the Week (12/29/25): Starting Conversations
Starting feels awkward because there’s no feedback yet. Once a conversation begins, most people relax. This week’s focus is simple: starting, not being interesting. You don’t need a clever opener. Most conversations start with: - A shared observation - A simple question - A comment about the situation Examples: - “Have you been here before?” - “This place is busier than I expected.” - “How long have you been waiting?” None of these are impressive. That's why they work. THIS WEEK'S PRACTICE: Start one short conversation this week. It can last: - 10 seconds - 30 seconds - Or end immediately All outcomes count. I'll post a short reflection post for you to share at the end of the week.
