Reflection video 1
1️⃣ Before watching this video, where did you think On2 timing came from? New York 2️⃣ What surprised you the most about the story of the Sarabande? I think what amazed me is , why it is banned for it is wild and scandalous, may be because of how slow and control and deepen of movement while tune in sync with the music, created some kind of emotion and lead to relationships that prohibit in that Era ? 3️⃣ Do you think learning the history of rhythm changes the way dancers approach musicality? Why or why not? I think, yes, learning history eg. Flu pandemic in 1918 teach us similar thing about COVID 19 pandemic. Every event has their own history and peoples around it tales. For dances, learn history of dance , is to learn about people way of life, the music expression , the rhythm likely come from the way of life, the dance is the communication and the expression of people and their culture. To learn the history of rhythm teaches us about how it originated and evolved and to feel the music as though we are living in and dancing among them.
Musicality from scratch
Hi everyone. I’ve been “dancing salsa” for a few years now unfortunately I’ve really struggled to get a “grip” on the music including the timing. Needless to say I’m often off beat and very aware of it and so now avoid dancing. I’ve asked numerous instructors and people in the know for a methodology/ structure to understand and eventually integrate the musicality into my dance and have always been met with redundancies like “you've got to feel it” which is of no help at all. In my area people primarily dance ON1. Would understanding ON2 through this course be an inroad to learning ON1 as well. I’m quite willing to invest time and energy into this course regardless. Please advise. Thanks.
🎶 Day 6 is Live — Week 1 Recap in the On2 Timing Accelerator
We just finished our first full week inside the On2 Timing Accelerator, and today’s Week 1 Recap video is now available. This entire week we focused on laying the rhythmic foundation for understanding On2 salsa timing. Instead of jumping straight into steps, we explored: • The historical evolution of Afro-Caribbean rhythm• The role of syncopation and the tresillo rhythm • The development of rhythmic cells like habanera and cinquillo • How these rhythms lead into danzón and son cubano • Why Paso Son timing is one of the first milestones for learning On2 Today’s recap video helps bring all of these concepts together so the process becomes clearer as we move forward in the course. If you’ve been following the lessons this week, this video will help solidify the big picture. 🗣 Community Discussion Tomorrow Tomorrow we are hosting our Social Dance Mastery Community Discussion.
