Chain maintenance and chain life

So I had to visit the mechanic shop today as my motorcycle’s chain felt too loose the last few weeks, and even before he actually checked it, he told me: “Yeah, this chain is done for and needs to be replaced already”.

I do remember doing around 18-20K (Kilometers) on it, so it sounds quite reasonable.

Wanted to know how much do you guys ride on your chains in average.
