Thankful Thursday 🌱✨ Today is Thankful Thursday, where we intentionally find gratitude in the small things—life, breath, movement, and the opportunities we often take for granted. Today, my daughter and I decided to take that gratitude a step further. You can't truly be thankful of where you're going if you don't innerstand where you've been. So our adventure led us to Visit Macon, the official destination and tourism organization for Macon that helps connect residents and visitors to the rich history, culture, events, and hidden gems throughout our city. From historic landmarks to local attractions, they help tell the story of the place we call home. One of their recommendations was the Tubman Museum, located right next door. Named in honor of Harriet Tubman, the museum is one of the largest institutions in the Southeast dedicated to preserving and celebrating African American art, history, and culture. Through exhibits, artifacts, artwork, and stories, it helps educate visitors about the struggles, achievements, resilience, and contributions of African Americans throughout history. As we walked through the exhibits and talked about what we were seeing, I found myself thinking about conversations I used to have with my great aunt and uncle. It reminded me that living history is still all around us. We are blessed to still have elders carrying stories, wisdom, and experiences that can never be found in a textbook. This summer, get out and explore. Visit the museums. Walk the historic streets. Ask questions. Listen to your elders. Teach your children history—not just the parts that are comfortable, but the parts that shaped who we are today. Because when we understand our history, we honor those who came before us, appreciate the freedoms we have today, and help ensure that history doesn't repeat itself. What piece of local history has impacted you the most? ❤️ #ThankfulThursday #VisitMacon #TubmanMuseum #TeachHistory #ExploreYourCommunity
