It was based on outdated information, and that’s on me. I was looking for official documents that had not been released yet.
OpenAI has now confirmed it will shut down its AI video-generation app Sora, less than two years after it first made headlines for creating realistic videos from simple prompts.
They’re also winding down their $1B content partnership with Disney.
The main reasons come down to cost and direction.
Video generation is extremely expensive to run, and it no longer fits where OpenAI is focusing next, including areas like robotics and real-world applications.
Disney has said they respect the decision and will explore other AI platforms moving forward.
Appreciate the people who questioned it and pushed me to double check.
