What is emotional intelligence and how do you use it in your day to day life?
According to this content, emotional intelligence is described as, “The capacity to be aware of, control, and express one's emotions, and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically.” Emotional intelligence is being able to recognize what triggers your emotions and the direction it may take you in, be it positive or negative when it comes to reaction. Good EI involves picking and choosing your battles, just like in life because we all know not every battle is worth fighting.
Emotional intelligence can be applied to all aspects of my life. For instance, with my nursing background, I could be dealing with an active cardiac arrest that comes in. The best way I demonstrate EI is by remaining calm in doing my part to render live-saving care. Why? Because if I’m in a state of panic, I will be unable to think clearly as to what my next steps would be and liable to make more mistakes, impacting that patient’s outcome, and decreasing the quality workflow of all medical staff present and involved rendering this life saving care.
