What's up everyone? đ„
Letâs talk about one of the biggest social media myths out there: âMore followers = more views.â
Nah. Thatâs not how the algorithm actually works.
đ± How the Algorithm Really Pushes Your Content
When you post a video, Instagram doesnât show it to everyone. It does a small test first.
It sends your video to a small sample of people, usually a mix of followers and non-followers, and watches what happens. If people pause, watch till the end, like, comment, or share, that tells the algorithm, âHey, this is good. Show it to more people.â
Each time that happens, your video gets another âboost.â Thatâs how something small can suddenly take off.
But if people scroll past it quickly or donât engage, the algorithm slows the push. It wonât risk sending it to thousands if the first few didnât care.
đ„ When Does Something âPop Offâ?
If youâre posting 1-3x a day and consistently hitting 200-300 views with zero followers (or with a brand new page), youâre already in what I call the Discovery Zone. That means the algorithm is actively testing your content and learning who itâs for.
Growth happens in tiers. First, your videos get tested with a few hundred people. If engagement and watch time stay high, it moves to a few thousand. If that group reacts well, then boom, thatâs when something âpops.â
Itâs not random. Itâs a data process. Each video teaches the algorithm who loves your content. Usually, if you stay consistent and keep improving your hook and retention, youâll see your first big âpopâ within 3-6 weeks, somewhere around post #45 - #75.
The algorithm rewards consistency and clarity. Not luck.
đ Why New Pages Sometimes Outperform Big Ones
If you start fresh and post something solid, the algorithm tests it with random audiences.Youâre not weighed down by old followers who donât care anymore, every viewer is new data.
On the other hand, older accounts have whatâs called âdead weight.â Followers who donât engage anymore can hurt your postâs performance because when those first few see it and ignore it, the algorithm assumes itâs boring and stops the spread.
Thatâs why you can have 1,000+ followers but still get 200 views, and a brand-new page with 0 followers can get 300+.
đ§Ș The Real Formula
Itâs not followers = views. Itâs engagement = reach = growth.
Every platformâs goal is the same: Keep people watching. If your content does that, theyâll feed it to more strangers, even if your follower count is tiny.
đ The Takeaway
- Donât chase follower count; chase attention retention.
- Donât stress about low views; watch your watch time.
- Donât assume your account is dead; test new content styles that stop the scroll.
The algorithm doesnât care how many followers you have. It cares how many people stay watching.
Keep the focus on quality, and the reach will follow.
