January 1, 2018 — while conducting vehicle patrol at an apartment complex, I observed six teenagers gathered on a second-floor stairwell. When I illuminated the area with my spotlight, they immediately kicked in the front door of an apartment. I moved in to clear the area and attempt to detain the individuals. The subjects then climbed down from the second-floor balcony and fled. They positioned themselves at the top of the hill between the apartment buildings and opened fire in my direction. I moved to cover to my right and waited for the gunfire to stop. Once it ceased, I advanced to pursue, at which point they fired again.
