Being a Child of God
Being a Child of God
As we walk through life, we are surrounded by voices things that pull at us, distract us, and try to draw us away from where we are meant to be.
When we were children, our parents were meant to guide our steps. They showed us what it meant to be a child. Some of what we were taught shaped us for good and some not so good.
And sometimes, without even realising it, we carry those same thoughts into our relationship with our Heavenly Father.
We begin to wonder
Do I burden Him with my questions, fears, and concerns?
Does He even care?
Why would He want to hear from me when I keep messing up?
So we stay quiet.
We don’t pray.
We hold back.
And when we think about our past, our sin, our failures, we ask,
“How could He accept me?”
If you’ve ever felt like an orphan
like God might disown you
you are not alone.
So how do you know you are a child of God?
And how do you walk in that identity when the path isn’t always clear?
Being a child of God is not something you earn it is something you are given.
It means you have been brought into a secure and intimate relationship with Him.
You are deeply loved.
You are forgiven.
You are adopted into His family.
It means freedom from fear.
Confidence to come to Him in prayer.
A life led by the Holy Spirit, filled with purpose, peace, and eternal hope.
You can come to God as a loving Father
running to Him, depending on Him,
like a child who knows they are safe.
But what if you never had that kind of relationship growing up?
What if “father” doesn’t feel safe, or close, or trustworthy?
How do you trust a Father you cannot see?
The truth is, we cannot measure God by earthly fathers.
For some, that comparison makes Him feel distant or harsh.
For others, it stirs grief, loss, or longing.
Some fathers were kind but unavailable.
Others placed expectations too heavy to carry.
All of this shapes how we see God.
But God is not like them.
He is holy completely different from anything we have known.
Even the best earthly father cannot compare to Him.
He is the perfect Father.
He knows you more deeply than you know yourself.
He sees your thoughts, your struggles, your history nothing is hidden from Him Psalm 139.
And still, He loves you.
With a love that is beyond understanding Ephesians 3:19.
Nothing you have done, or ever will do, can separate you from His steadfast love.
He does not change James 1:17.
He is the same yesterday, today, and forever Hebrews 13:8.
He will never leave you or forsake you Hebrews 13:5.
In His kindness, He didn’t just forgive you
He adopted you.
And that alone would be more than enough grace for a lifetime.
But He didn’t stop there.
He made you an heir
giving you every spiritual blessing in Christ.
You are not an outsider.
You are not forgotten.
You are not barely accepted.
You are His.
