Persistence Pays, Purpose Reigns
Did you watch the Academy Awards...or at least catch some updates online?
Michael B. Jordan just reminded the world what happens when a dream refuses to die.
From his early days on television in The Wire and Friday Night Lights, to commanding the global stage in Black Panther, Creed, and Fruitvale Station, his journey has been anything but ordinary.
Each role, each performance, each step forward built the man we now celebrate as an Academy Award winner for Best Actor.
But let’s not sanitize the journey.
Just weeks before this moment, he was reportedly in Europe and subjected to a racist slur.
Let that sit with you.
At the very moment he is rising to the highest level of his craft, he is still forced to confront the lowest expressions of ignorance.
And yet… he kept moving.
This is what I wrote in Welcome to Greatness:
In the pursuit of greatness, if you encounter no opposition, you are heading in the wrong direction.
Opposition is not a signal to retreat. It is confirmation that you are advancing. Because greatness will test you. It will stretch you. It will expose you.
Even scripture reminds us that the road is narrow, and few will find it. Not because it is hidden, but because it is hard. Many will admire the outcome, but few will endure the process.
So, today, as we celebrate this Oscar win, let's understand what we are really honouring.
Not just talent.
Not just performance.
We are celebrating resilience.
We are celebrating the refusal to bow to racism, to oppression, to rejection, to every unnecessary barrier placed in the path of those who dare to rise.
We are celebrating everyone who keeps going when it would be easier to quit.
If you are serious about your dream, then ask yourself:
Are you willing to face the resistance that comes with it?
Are you prepared to walk the narrow road?
If the answer is yes, then it is time to equip yourself.
It is time to step into the discipline required to conquer your challenges and build your greatness.
NOW, share your thoughts as well.
What did you learn from it?
What inspired you the most?
What is your toughest challenge hindering your progress right now?
