The high school girls program at my school is a low point. 2 years ago the coach retired, and his assistant became the new varsity coach. The 2 years following have been filled with tons of drama between the coaches, parents, and players. The team has regressed over the years and lost to teams they hadnt lost to in a LONG LONG time. The worst part is that it is killing the program, there are fewer and fewer girls turning out each year, and the ones that play do not seem to be enjoying the experience.
The season recently ended, and following that the JV coach resigned, due in large part to the way her and the HC got along. I think there is still a small chance the HC isn't brought back either for next year.
Anyways, I really want to step in and bring the SAVI way to the program. I've been diligently studying LL/R&S along with trying to fill up my drill book and learning how to created a competitive cauldron. The thing is, I don't know whether to put in for the JV job, hope that the HC understands the situation of the program and would be willing to do a extreme makeover to the program. Or do I wait 1 more year and hope that it is the final year of their tenure and step in. I worry that if step in now, and I cant convince her to buy in to the programs of LL and R&S, along with the other SAVI Ideals, that it will reflect poorly on me as a coach.
But it also pains me to watch the program become what it has over the past few years. I also have a group of girls that will be coming through the program that I have invested a lot of time in. I do not want to see them get to the program in the current condition. I'm kind of at a crossroads and would like to hear any advice from the SAVI community.
Thanks in advance!
