Today’s Scripture “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 18:3) Troubled thoughts don’t knock politely. Troubling thoughts, they rush in, loud and cruel. Fear, doubt, anger, they can make a mind feel crowded and heavy. I don’t believe we should fight like warriors in those moments. Jesus told us to become like children. What does that mean? Google says: Being "like a child" during troubling times manifests in two distinct ways: negative emotional regression(helplessness, tantrums, fear) or positive childlike resilience(trust, simplicity, presence). It is a stress response where adults may rely on early learned patterns or adopt a "faithful" mindset to survive overwhelming challenges. What does God’s word say about it? “Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”— Matthew 18:4 This is the foundation. Children don’t pretend to have it all figured out, they know they need help. What that looks like in real life: - Admitting “I don’t know” - Letting go of the need to control outcomes - Being willing to be taught A child doesn’t carry everything. A child doesn’t try to solve every fear. A child runs to someone they trust. Children feel things deeply, but they don’t stay tangled in them for long. They cry, they reach out, they trust, and then they rest. There is an innocence in that. It’s a refusal to let darkness define what is true. When we allow God to be our Father and we trust in Him, when we rest in the truth of Christ, we can find a peace like an innocent child in his loving parent’s arms. We can learn to rest even during life’s storms. When your mind is in turmoil, stop and remember that you are a loved child of God! Know that you can rest in the knowledge that you are loved and never alone.
