When I got a divorce in 1998, the internet was just beginning to take shape. The World Wide Web wasn’t the massive, interconnected world it is now. Back then—1999 and 2000—online dating meant chat rooms, message boards, and small meetup spaces where singles could find one another.
And in that early, experimental time, I met the man who became my soul mate. We’ve now been married for 24 years.
Even as my story turned into a lifelong love, I’m painfully aware that many women have not been so lucky. We’ve all heard the horror stories—women who met someone online only to be manipulated, assaulted, or worse. Those stories still happen, and they break my heart.
That’s why I’ve made this my mission.
