How many of you have been using the So, what?
Method?
Quick Refresh: we face a “limit” or something doesn’t go as expected. So, what I decided to show up so that’s what I’m going to do!
Here’s the next step.
I used to… but now I…
When we’re facing a limitation it’s important to reflect how we would have reacted in the past (I used to), while then reminding ourselves what we are doing in the moment and why it’s important (but now I)
Here’s an example:
Situation: I’m about to start a run, when it starts raining moderately.
Thought Process: It’s raining. So, what if it’s raining? It’s just water. I used to use the rain as an excuse to not run, but now I’ve decided that the rain isn’t a big deal it just means I’m going to get wet and that’s okay .
Here’s an everyday example:
Situation: Laundry is starting to pile up.
Thought Process: Laundry is starting to pile up. So, what it’s just laundry, it’s not going to eat me. I used to dread doing laundry until I had to dedicate a whole day of doing it, but now I I’m going to start with one load at a time.
I hope this helps with your reframe of difficult moments and limitations!
