Welcome to Roots Before Wings.
I'm Shawna. A Mom of two, a pediatric nurse, former nanny and preschool aide, crafter, amateur artist, and someone who has spent her life deeply in love with children and the way they see the world.
Three years ago, I pulled my kids out of the conventional system and leaned into unschooling. I want to raise children who are curious, courageous, and self-aware, kids who know who they are and what they want from life. I believe those things grow in the unhurried moments, the messy art projects, and the deep connection between a parent and a child who feels truly known.
That is what this community is built on.
Whether you are brand new to unschooling or simply a parent who feels in your gut there has to be a better way, you belong here. We will talk about play, art, nature, and connection. We will talk about the doubt and the hard days too.
You do not need a perfect homeschool room. You just need a love for your child and the willingness to trust them.
